Who We Are

Our Mission + Vision

At Arizuma, we are a dedicated team of mental health professionals who have been working together for nearly a decade. Through our experience, we've discovered that truly transformative change comes from radically individualized treatment.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions or quick 15-minute consultations.

They don’t work.

Our approach is to deeply understand your unique situation, allowing us to build a strong foundation for meaningful improvements in your life. At Arizuma, we take the time to get to know you and apply our expertise to help guide your life in a new, positive direction.

Our commitment to innovation in mental health is evident through the actions of our founders, who are true advocates for change. Their belief in the potential of psychedelic treatment led them to establish the Psychedelic Association of Arizona. Not only that, but they drafted SB1570, a bill legalizing the use of psilocybin for clinical use. SB1570 passed through the House and Senate before being vetoed by the Arizona Governor.

Furthermore, the founders of Arizuma are passionate about making a lasting impact on mental health. In support of this mission, we dedicate 15% of our profits to mental health causes across the Valley, including programs for veterans, children, and survivors of domestic abuse.

We welcome suggestions for worthy causes at [email protected].

We invite you to join us on this journey toward better mental health and a brighter future.

    Clinical Director, COO & Co-Founder

I got into this field because I wanted to help people. I’ve been a medical social worker, psychiatric hospital administrator, and, for the last 14 years, a private practice psychologist.

Too many people in the United States are misdiagnosed. These “labels” are like terrible, unwelcomed companions, following individuals throughout their mental health care. Misdiagnoses lead to poorly conceived treatment options and THAT leads to clients not improving.

…And we wonder why people don’t get better….

I was fed up with it all, so I decided to do something about it. I developed my diagnostic expertise, started to create more dynamic and unique treatment plans, and I made the conscious effort to break from tradition, step outside the box, and design plans that were more interesting, positive, helpful, and, dare I say, fun.

It was time to break with tradition and start to help people in a more positive way – helping them understand their strengths and not just what was wrong with them – and I’ve never looked back. The positive impact on my clients defied expectation. I was able to help them make and maintain real, lasting changes.

There are many creative solutions for anyone, if we listen carefully and color outside the lines. You don’t have to have an advanced degree to have good ideas, and the best solutions come from collaborative, connected inspiration. This is how I work best with people. This is how I want to work with you.

I love the work I do. I get to use my entire skillset to help people get better, help people move beyond a life of disappointment after disappointment, and create a life filled with joy.

Nothing happens without actually caring about the people you want to help – and I want something great to happen for you. I want to be the guy that helps your loved one live beyond their so-called limitations, and break out of the box. We can do this!

    Cho Long Kim, NMD, PMHNP-BC

    Medical Director

Dr. Kim completed her undergraduate work at the University of California, Riverside, in 2004, with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry. While on her own health journey, she decided to enter the Naturopathic profession to fulfill her dreams to treat the mind, body and spirit using non-invasive, natural means to help patients find their way back to healing the way nature intended. This led her to pursue Naturopathic Medicine as it offered her the best tools to address and treat the root cause of disharmony within individuals needing aid.

She received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in 2008, graduating from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. During her training, she developed an interest in Addiction Medicine and actively focused her practice with this emphasis, as well as all the naturopathic modalities (acupuncture, nutrition, homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathic physical manipulation therapy, etc.) to help bring the body back to balance. She further continued her education by obtaining her PMHNP-BC to further help those who are underserved and underinsured suffering from addiction and other mental disorders.

Currently, Dr. Kim is honored to serve as the Medical Director of Arizuma while working with patients in drug and alcohol treatment through the valley as a provider. She also works within the community as an advocate for comprehensive, unstigmatized care and being a steward of mindful use of medications. She holds two active faculty appointments at the collegiate level and maintains a professional vlog and podcast on health, empowerment, and equity in the society we live in today. As a cancer survivor, Dr Kim “walks the walk” as she continuously advocates for self-care with her love for yoga, meditation, strength training and indoor cycling.

Phaedra brings over 15 years of extensive experience in the fields of substance use and mental health recovery. As one of the founding members and the Executive Director of a local substance use and mental health treatment center, she played a pivotal role in transforming a visionary concept into a thriving, Joint Commission-accredited agency that has helped hundreds of individuals find their path to recovery.

Phaedra earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Arizona State University (ASU) and remains highly dedicated to her family and social circle. While returning to school is in sight for the future, she is currently focused on balancing her professional and personal commitments.

Throughout her career, Phaedra has demonstrated a deep understanding that the journey to personal well-being is not a one-size-fits-all process. While traditional talk therapy, whether in individual or group settings, remains a highly effective approach for many, she recognizes the growing potential of innovative treatments, including ketamine and other psychedelic therapies. Witnessing the transformative impact of these treatments on people close to her, she has become a passionate advocate for exploring alternative paths to healing, offering hope and new possibilities for those seeking recovery.
